In recent times, there has been an increased sense of pride in the African identity. More and more Africans both home and abroad are feeling more comfortable and proud to stand up and defend their identity as Africans. Trends in taking up new nationalities in Europe and America are dwindling as we are now proud of mother Africa. Saying Africa is on the rise is an understatement and this is in no little way thanks to the efforts of Africans in the Diaspora. Many who have gone out into Europe, Asia and the Americas and be successful are now giving back to Africa. All over the continent thousands of good deeds are being done by the African Diaspora. Wherever you look in the continent, you will find a small business, an orphanage, a sports academy, a community college, community taps, a newly paved road , a health center, a scholarship program, a talent development competition and much more, donated or sponsored by an African from the diaspora. Despite the years spent out of the continent, they have not forgotten our values of solidarity, sharing and care for the less privileged- African values that can never be westernized. Though a few of these deeds are well publicized, the majority which leave the greatest impact to the most needy and underprivileged Africans often go unnoticed and unrecognized. Africa Opportunity Platform recognizes this fact and offers a platform for the recognition of the immeasurable contributions made by the African diaspora to the sustainable development of Africa. Through this platform, AOP offers all Africans of goodwill in the diaspora the opportunity to showcase the great work they are doing for the continent and to encourage others to do same.
